Terms of Use

Last updated: 8 June 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Aliana mobile application ("Aliana", "the app"). Aliana is operated by David Theunissen, an independent developer ("we", "us", or "our").

By downloading, accessing, or using Aliana, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use Aliana. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you are legally able to enter into these Terms.

2. Your Account

To use Aliana you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate information when registering, keep your login credentials secure and confidential, be responsible for all activity under your account, and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use of your account. You are responsible for the security of any device on which you are signed in.

3. Your Data and Content

You retain ownership of the budget and transaction data you enter into Aliana ("your content"). You grant us the limited right to store, process, and display your content solely to provide the app's features to you and any budget members you invite. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter and for keeping your own backups where important. Every user can download a copy of their data from Settings → Download my data, and Premium subscribers can additionally export transactions as a spreadsheet-ready CSV file.

4. Shared Budgets

Aliana lets you share a budget with other people and assign them roles (owner, editor, or viewer). If you invite someone to a budget, you are responsible for that decision. Members you invite will be able to see and, depending on their role, modify the shared budget's data. Only share budgets with people you trust, and only invite people who consent to participating.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Aliana for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose; attempt to gain unauthorised access to the app, other users' data, or our systems; interfere with, disrupt, or overload the service; reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code except where permitted by law; use the app to store or transmit malicious code; or resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app without our permission. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

6. Subscriptions and Billing

Aliana offers a free tier and an optional Premium subscription that unlocks additional features and removes free-tier limits.

  • Subscriptions are sold and billed through your app store (Google Play or the Apple App Store), subject to that store's terms.
  • Subscriptions may renew automatically until cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your app store account settings.
  • Payment is charged to your app store account at confirmation of purchase and at each renewal.
  • Refunds are handled by the app store under its own refund policy. We do not separately process payments or refunds.
  • We may change subscription pricing or features in future; any changes will apply to renewals after the change takes effect.

7. Free-tier Limits

The free tier includes usage limits (for example, on the number of categories, monthly transactions, and budget members). These limits may change over time. Upgrading to Premium removes or increases these limits as described in the app.

8. The Service is Provided "As Is"

Aliana is a budgeting and money-management tool to help you organise your finances. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. Any decisions you make based on information in the app are your own responsibility.

The app is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the app will always be available, secure, or free of bugs.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) Aliana. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

10. Availability and Changes to the App

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of Aliana at any time, with or without notice. We may also release updates that change features. We are not liable to you for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the service.

11. Termination

You may stop using Aliana and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or use the app in a way that could harm other users, us, or third parties. On termination, your right to use the app ends; provisions that by their nature should survive (such as ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Aliana after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the operator's country of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your own country of residence apply. Any disputes will be handled in accordance with applicable law and, where relevant, the dispute-resolution terms of the app store through which you obtained the app.
